southwest

I first visited the desert southwest in 1992, when, as an adjunct instructor of photography at Goddard College in Vermont, my students made me an offer that I could not refuse. “Meet us in Albuquerque,” they said…”and we will explore and camp in the desert for a month. But you don’t just have to be there for us as our leader/instructor/mentor…you can pursue your own work as well.” So began the first of four of these trips: twice out of Albuquerque, twice out of Las Vegas…and into the jaw-dropping vastness. How lucky I’ve been to have done this, and in such a perfect context of give and take…both with my students, and with the landscape itself.
